Job Description

Maintenance/Buildings Manager | Remote working | Sutton Coldfield | £15.40 per hour | Part time, 10-12 hrs per week (days and times to be agreed) Our client is a registered charity responsible for the management of cottages which are home to elderly individuals of limited means who are capable of independent living. We are seeking a reliable and experienced Maintenance/Buildings Manager to support the maintenance and improvement of their properties. This newly created role complements the existing Scheme Manager position, and close coordination between the two posts is essential. You will not be required to be based on-site but must be available to attend regularly during normal weekday hours to fulfil responsibilities. Key Responsibilities: * Monitor, inspect and oversee maintenance and works as directed by the Trustees. * Conduct regular inspections of all properties, identifying required works. * Liaise with contractors, service providers, and utility companies to ensure effective service delivery. * Oversee quality control in both materials and quality of work. * Ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times. * Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities and report to the Trustees as required. * Work collaboratively with the Scheme Manager to ensure minimal disruption to residents. * Perform routine checks of emergency lighting, fire alarms and residents’ call systems. * Supervise the Trust’s gardening and cleaning contractors and oversee the work carried out. * Advise Trustees on maintenance priorities and future planning. * Maintain the Trust’s maintenance log and update inventory of tools and equipment. * Monitor the condition of trees and planting on site and recommend safety measures. Skills and Experience: * Strong understanding of building maintenance, materials, and construction processes. * Knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations and standards. * Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within a residential or charitable environment would be ideal. * Confident in using computers for communication and record-keeping. * Good written communication for preparing reports and maintaining records. * Able to work independently with minimal supervision. * Organised, with the ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively. * Empathy and understanding of older people and their needs. * Able to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion. * Ideally reside locally or within easy travelling distance of the Trust. * Happy to work remotely day-to-day.
