Job Description

Building Inspector Location: Berkshire, Job Type: Contract (Minimum 6 months) Salary: £60 per hourWe are excited to offer a career-graded opportunity for a Building Inspector on behalf of the local council. This role is essential for ensuring the health and safety of people in and around buildings, promoting energy efficiency, and providing easier access to buildings for all. The successful candidate will join the Planning, Transport & Public Protection Services team and contribute to the commitment to excellent community service. Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Conduct Building Regulation application plan checking and site inspections. Assess means of escape from existing buildings and dangerous structures. Process demolition notices and participate in other corporate projects involving the Building Control team. Provide impartial advice and guidance on building regulations to property owners, the public, and the local authority. Maintain accurate records of all building control activities. Depending on the level within the career grade, responsibilities will increase in complexity and autonomy. Required Skills & Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in building control or a related field, with a progression through various levels of certification and registration as required (e.g., BSR registration). Experience in building control within a local authority setting, with a deep understanding of building regulations and safety standards. Excellent organizational skills to manage workload effectively under minimal supervision. Strong communication skills to interact with various stakeholders and provide guidance and advice. Ability to work under pressure and meet the objectives and targets of the section. Current full driving licence and willingness to work occasional unsocial hours. Benefits: Competitive hourly rate.
