Building Physics Team Lead – Bristol
We’re currently supporting a well-established and growing multidisciplinary consultancy in Bristol that’s looking to appoint a Building Physics Team Lead. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically strong and forward-thinking individual who’s ready to step into a key leadership role, with the chance to shape and grow a Building Physics offering within a collaborative and respected MEP team.
About the Opportunity
This is more than just a technical role – you'll play a central part in expanding the Building Physics function, supporting the wider MEP team, and helping to lead and develop junior engineers. You’ll work on a diverse range of high-profile projects from early-stage concept design through to delivery, all within a dynamic and flexible working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of high-quality building physics modelling, including SAP, SBEM, dynamic thermal modelling (Level 5 Part L), thermal comfort studies, daylight/sunlight assessments, and in-use energy simulations
Produce and lodge EPCs and BRUKL documentation
Advise on design variables to meet performance targets, with a practical understanding of implementation and cost implications
Establish and maintain efficient systems for data exchange, quality assurance, and reporting
Act as a key technical advisor in meetings with clients, contractors, and design teams
Stay abreast of regulations, standards, and emerging technologies
Support internal knowledge sharing and cross-team collaboration
Play a key role in growing the Building Physics team, including recruitment, mentoring, and leadership
Support business development activities and contribute to securing future work
What We’re Looking For
A dynamic and confident professional, comfortable working independently and within a team
Strong experience with key assessments including:
SAP and SBEM
Level 5 dynamic simulations
TM54, TM52, TM59 and Part O compliance
Daylight analysis (DF, VSC, etc.)
Commercial EPC production and lodging
Strong report writing and communication skills
Practical knowledge of low carbon and sustainable design
Experience in training or mentoring junior team members
Leadership qualities with a collaborative, can-do approach
Eligible to work in the UK and fluent in English
Willingness to travel for surveys when required
Desirable but Not Essential
Experience in residential, commercial, education or leisure sectors
Familiarity with thermal bridging assessments
Interest in business development, tender writing, or bidding
Working toward Chartership or professionally registered
Experience with IES, TAS, Design Builder, and general design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office)
Qualifications
Degree in a built environment-related discipline, ideally with a relevant postgraduate qualification
Demonstrable experience delivering building physics assessments in a consultancy setting
