Building Services Design Manager
Location: Hybrid - Cheshire / Wilmslow
Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 + Benefits

An Energy Consulting Team - advising on energy and decarbonisation plans for vicarages, schools, churches, hospitals, offices and more.

As Building Services Design Manager, you will lead the M&E Design team and play a pivotal role in shaping both project delivery and internal processes as the company scales. You'll manage a talented group of four engineers (two juniors, one senior, and one mechanical engineer), while also remaining hands-on in design work, client engagement, and quality control.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and developing the M&E engineering team - delegating workload, conducting appraisals, and ensuring strong technical output.
Overseeing mechanical and electrical design across RIBA Stages 1-6 for new builds, retrofits, and low-energy projects.
Reviewing designs, attending client meetings, and supporting tenders, quotes, and technical submissions.
Collaborating closely with the Energy Consulting team on decarbonisation strategies and sustainable building solutions.
Developing internal systems, processes, and resources to strengthen project delivery within the M&E division.
Spending regular time on site to ensure quality, coordination, and compliance.
Networking and relationship-building with architects, clients, and supply chain partners to help drive business growth.
Essential requirements:
Proven experience in mechanical or electrical building services design, ideally in a design & build setting.
Experience managing and mentoring technical teams.
Strong knowledge of sustainable design, renewables, and low-energy building systems.
Confident working with clients, architects, and stakeholders.
Hands-on approach with the ability to both design and manage.
A collaborative mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
