Buyer – Supply Chain
West Midlands (Flexible Working)
Manufacturing / Engineering Environment
The Opportunity
We’re working in partnership with a well-established and growing engineering business seeking a commercially astute Buyer to join their Supply Chain team.
This is a high-impact role where you’ll take ownership of supplier performance, cost control, and material availability—ensuring operations run efficiently while driving real commercial value.

The Role
You’ll play a key role in managing procurement activity across both operational and strategic purchasing, with a focus on cost, quality, and delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
* Managing and optimising MRP/ERP systems (EPICOR preferred) to ensure accuracy and continuity of supply
* Sourcing materials and services across transactional, tactical and strategic spend
* Monitoring and expediting purchase orders to support production schedules
* Driving supplier performance, cost reduction and value for money (VFM)
* Leading supplier reviews, negotiations and contract agreements
* Supporting new product development with costings, risk analysis and supplier selection
* Working closely with Operations, Planning, Quality and Finance to meet business objectives
* Managing supplier relationships, performance, and risk across the supply chain
* Identifying and delivering cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives
* Supporting inventory management and maintaining optimal stock levels
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience as a Buyer / Procurement Specialist within a manufacturing or engineering environment
* Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (EPICOR advantageous)
* Demonstrable experience in supplier negotiation and cost control
* Excellent understanding of supply chain dynamics, cost drivers and TCA (Total Cost of Acquisition)
* Strong stake holder engagement skills – able to influence at all levels
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Commercially driven with a mindset for continuous improvement and innovation
