The successful Buyer in Abingdon, Oxfordshire will be responsible for the cost-effective procurement of materials, goods and services, ensuring that all purchasing activities support the wider business requirements. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the role offers the chance to make a significant impact on supplier performance, cost savings, and supply chain efficiency.
Key responsibilities for the Buyer in Abingdon, Oxfordshire include:

Sourcing and placing orders for both contract and non-contract items using MRP reports and requisitions.

Negotiating to secure the best possible pricing.

Maintaining and updating supplier information within the MRP system.
*
Monitoring supplier performance and implementing improvement programmes.
*
Ensuring materials and components are available on time and at optimum stock levels.
*
Liaising with Production Control to progress outstanding purchase orders.

Supporting Stores and Production Control teams when required.
To be successful, the Buyer in Abingdon, Oxfordshire will ideally have:

A purchasing qualification such as CIPS (desirable but not essential).

At least 3 years’ experience with MRP/ERP/SAP or similar systems.

A strong track record in supplier management and negotiations.

Experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally marine-related.

Competency with MS Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
*
Excellent communication, problem-solving and assertiveness skills.
*
The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
