Buyer (procurement of fresh produce), The Role: Reporting into the Head of Procurement, the successful Buyer (Procurement Officer) will enjoy a highly varied and rewarding role, where you will be responsible for procuring quality products and controlling profit levels, while maintaining and developing relationships with suppliers. The Buying role involves reviewing stock levels, quality standards and discrepancies, and reviewing the supply chain and buying trends. You will be responsible for negotiating prices and contracts (both over the phone and face to face), attending Trade Shows and sourcing new and visiting existing producers and suppliers, both locally, nationally and overseas. The Person: The successful candidate will be an experienced Buyer (Procurement Officer), with a minimum of 2 years’ experience. They will be commercially astute, a confident negotiator and a strong relationship builder. Experience working with fresh produce is not essential, but the successful candidate will have worked in a fast-paced, high volume and time critical (FMCG) environment with a wide portfolio of suppliers and will be keen to learn the intricacies of buying fresh, seasonal produce.
We are also happy to consider candidates with experience of sourcing, negotiating and purchasing Fresh produce, (potentially gained in the hospitality sector or similar).
Salary and Benefits: £35-50,000 (dependent on experience) + benefits including 25 days’ holiday + 8 days (bank) holiday, company pension, health care, free parking, discounted produce, Christmas food box etc.
Location: The Buyer (Procurement Officer) role is based in Hallatrow (BS39, 10 miles south of Bristol and Bath), with visits to suppliers’ sites, both within the UK and overseas.

Buyer (Procurement Officer), Responsibilities:
* Procure quality fresh produce throughout the various seasons, at the most competitive prices, ensuring the business maintains a profitable GP% within your allocated categories.
* Procure fresh produce of adequate quality and freshness to fully meet customers’ expectations, reviewing quality on delivery and dealing with any problems or discrepancies that arise.
* Research and on-board new suppliers.
* Visit UK and oversees suppliers as required (new and existing), assessing suitability for supply chain, including quality system standards, ability to deliver, product quality and pricing compliance.
* Negotiate prices and contracts, both over the phone and face to face.
* Ensure that the quality, safety and legalities of all products are adhered to in relation to temperature control and maintenance of the chill chain.
* In conjunction with the stock control department, review stock control and ensure that the correct levels of produce are ready for the next pick, ensuring the timely delivery of all products and arranging alternatives as required.
* Investigate any discrepancies and report delivery anomalies and rejections to the supplier in a timely manner, ensuring no financial consequences and monitoring supplier performance on a weekly basis.
* Liaise with the wider procurement team to assess buying requirements, using all relevant information (weather conditions, special events, historical data etc.) to produce the daily buying list.
* Source "special produce lines" and work with the Customer Excellence Department to create daily offers.
* Complete appropriate paperwork, input all daily invoices from suppliers, deal with invoice queries, create purchase orders and negotiate credits with suppliers.
* Complete daily and weekly evidence sheets to show supplier price comparisons for management and the pricing department.
* Provide real market values and cost information to the Pricing Manager on a regular basis, adding or removing uplifts and updating other departments on changes in market conditions as appropriate.
* Assist with the preparation of BRC paperwork.
Buyer (Procurement Officer), Skills and experience required:
* 2 years’ + Buying / Procurement experienced gained in any fast paced, high volume and time critical (FMCG) environment OR experience of sourcing, negotiating and purchasing Fresh produce.
* Ability to maintain and develop sustainable relationships with the supply chain.
* Commercially astute, a confident negotiator, and a strong relationship builder.
* A proficient level of computer literacy.
* A full UK driving license.
