C&I Project Engineer
Project Engineer (Control & Instrumentation)
A new opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer (Control & Instrumentation) to join a central engineering team within a major independent power generation business. This role supports a wide portfolio of energy assets across the UK and Ireland. The base location is flexible, with the option to work from any operational site or office. Travel to various locations will be required and may involve extended periods away from the base.

Role Purpose
The primary purpose of the role is to lead the development, construction, and execution of large-scale capital projects, while also delivering technical C&I support to operational power generation sites. Focus areas include CCGT Lifetime Extension projects, new-build projects, and the development of future energy infrastructure.
At times, the role will also involve acting in a deputised capacity for site-based managerial roles and supporting short-term assignments across the wider engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
Designing, developing, and executing the engineering strategy for Control & Instrumentation systems.
Acting as the subject matter expert for all C&I engineering matters.
Preparing, reviewing, and submitting C&I designs and specifications.
Leading the development and delivery of engineering projects, including:
Technical data provision.
Creation and review of engineering documentation.
Evaluation of tender responses.
Commissioning support.
Working closely with the Senior C&I Project Engineer to assess designs, technical studies, and reports.
Conducting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), monitoring work quality and progress during project execution.
Delivering innovative technical solutions to engineering challenges.
Supporting major plant outages and project implementation activities.
Providing timely reporting and data updates on project status and milestones.
Overseeing installation and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems in accordance with design and compliance standards.
Developing and maintaining relationships with key maintenance providers and contractors, including support in procurement, tender evaluation, and contract execution.
Participating in technical nomination processes and assisting in competency development for site personnel.
Conducting root cause analysis (RCA) across multiple sites, ensuring incidents and lessons learned are shared fleet-wide.
Supporting and promoting the quality assurance programme across projects.
Contributing to and challenging site investment decisions based on technical insights.
Managing project and operational risks consistently across the fleet.
Supporting employee recruitment, selection, training, and performance management within the engineering discipline.
Providing technical oversight and audit of external contractors on operational and construction activities.
Fully supporting project planning and execution, including deployment to project sites as necessary.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Background
Proven experience in a senior engineering role, ideally across multiple sites within power generation or similar infrastructure.
Demonstrable experience in CCGT operations.
Strong track record in proactive Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) leadership.
Committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and performance-focused culture.
Experience in managing and leading engineering teams in process-led environments.
Deep knowledge and experience in engineering, operations, and maintenance management.
Experience in construction project delivery.

Qualifications
Degree-qualified in engineering or a related discipline (equivalent experience may be considered.
Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) status with a recognised engineering institution, or actively working towards.
Will consider Apprenticeship or HNC upwards in a related discipline
