The Role
As a Cable Jointer you will play a vital role in installing, connecting, and maintaining low and high-voltage underground cables and associated infrastructure. This role involved working on a range of projects including utility installations, infrastructure developments, and network upgrades. You will ensure that all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards in compliance with DNO/IDNO specifications and statutory regulations.
Responsibilities
* Carry out LV and/or HV cable jointing, terminations, and cut-outs according to technical drawings and specifications
* Inspect cables and accessories for damage and confirm material compliance before use
* Record and report all completed jointing works e.g. joint types, locations and test results
* Operate tools and equipment safely in accordance with RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements)
* Complete safety documentation including daily task briefings, permits, and point of work risk assessments
* Liaise with the supervisor and civil teams to coordinate excavation, ducting, and reinstatement works
* Support ongoing project reporting by confirming cable installation progress and jointing milestones
* Respond to emergency callouts or reactive maintenance requests e.g. faults and outages
* Assist in fault-finding, cable tracing, or repair works on live or de-energised networks
* Contribute to quality audits and site inspections conducted by internal or client auditors
* Carry out handover meetings with clients or DNO representatives after job completion
* Participate in night or weekend shifts as required for project schedules or emergency works

Qualifications & Training
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Electrical Power Engineering / Cable Jointing DNO trained (or equivalent)
* Experience working on DNO/IDNO networks and private network installations
* Competency in LV and/or HV jointing valid authorisations
* ECS/JIB card or CSCS card (required)
* NRSWA Certification (required)
* Confined Space Training and First Aid (desirable)
* Full UK Driving Licence (with towing licence, essential)
Technical Skills & Experience
* Proficient in jointing techniques (straight joints, branch joints, terminations) on LV/HV cables and all types of cables, LV Plicata, Plastic, Consac, HV SWA, Picas, Triplex etc.
* Ability to read and interpret cable records, network diagrams, and technical drawings
* Excellent awareness of underground utility safety and electrical hazards
* Clear and effective communication skills, good IT skills and the ability to work in coordination with multiple site teams
* Strong understanding of industry standards including DNO/IDNO specifications, NRSWA, and HSE regulations
