Job Description
School Caretaker / Site Manager - Chelmsford - £13-£15 ph (DOE)
We're looking for a reliable and hardworking Caretaker / Site Manager to join our friendly team, a successful independent school for children aged 3-11 right in the heart of Chelmsford. This role is all about helping us maintain a safe, welcoming and well-kept environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Hours: 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday
What the job involves:
Day-to-day care and upkeep of the school site
Carrying out general repairs and maintenance (painting, carpentry, basic DIY, gardening)
Making sure the site is secure, safe and tidy
Helping with building checks and compliance tasks
Managing contractors and supporting school staff with site-related needs
Occasionally dealing with emergencies or out-of-hours work
What we're looking for:
A practical, hands-on person with good DIY and maintenance skills
Someone flexible, proactive and who takes pride in their work
Basic computer skills and an understanding of health & safety
A full driving licence (essential)
Experience in a similar caretaker, handyman or site manager role (ideal, but not essential if you've got the right skills and attitude)
The details:
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday (some flexibility and occasional out-of-hours work required)
Salary: Competitive, based on your experience and qualifications
Contract: Permanent, starting as soon as possible (subject to checks)
