About the Role
Northwest Leicestershire District Council is seeking a skilled and versatile Carpenter to join our dedicated Repairs and Maintenance team. This is a multi-skilled position working across our housing stock to deliver a wide range of repairs, maintenance, and improvement works.
Most of the work will be undertaken in occupied properties, with some in vacant homes. We are looking for an experienced tradesperson with strong carpentry skills and a broader understanding of property maintenance. The successful candidate will be part of a customer-focused team committed to high-quality workmanship and excellent service delivery. Key Responsibilities
Complete carpentry and joinery work to required standards, in line with current regulations and manufacturers’ instructions
Accurately record time, materials, and job details using a PDA/smart device
Carry out job surveys to determine the scope of work and material requirements
Maintain vehicle stock to ensure a ‘Right First Time’ approach is achievable
Contribute to a team culture of continuous improvement and customer service excellenceEssential Criteria
Eligibility to work in the UK
NVQ/City & Guilds Level 2 (or equivalent) in Carpentry and Joinery
Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and ability to demonstrate safe working practices
Full UK driving licence (a company vehicle will be provided)Experience, Skills and Knowledge
Demonstrable experience in installation, repairs, and maintenance within domestic or residential buildings
Ability to assess and diagnose issues, and identify appropriate repair solutions
Skilled at interpreting technical instructions and working to trade regulations
Capable of working in confined or difficult-to-access locations
Familiarity with smart technology for job reporting and communicationInterpersonal Skills and Behaviours
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with tenants and colleagues
Flexible, team-oriented approach with a focus on achieving collective goals
Calm, confident, and resilient under pressure, with a methodical and ‘can do’ attitude

Ability to adapt to changing demands and deal effectively with challenging situations
