Job Title: Carpenter / Joiner Location: Field-Based (working within a 60-mile radius of Stevenage) Salary: Competitive Job Type: Full-time, Permanent - also considering applications from a self-employed / sub-contractor basis Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week About the Role: We are seeking a skilled full-time Carpenter/Joiner to support Contract Managers with on-site carpentry and joinery tasks. You will be responsible for the layout, installation, repair, finishing, and maintenance of structures, fixtures, and buildings. This includes designing, cutting, and measuring materials to customer specifications. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, reliable, and have strong communication and organisational skills. You must have completed a carpentry apprenticeship or have equivalent experience and be willing to travel within a 50-mile radius of Stevenage. The role involves working in diverse domestic properties as part of our insurance repair network. You should have a good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials, pay close attention to detail, and provide excellent customer service. The ability to work with minimal supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential. Please note this is a permanent PAYE role. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Take measurements and prepare sites for woodwork Prepare drawings for cabinetry, framing, and other construction projects Design and install fitted shelves, cabinets, and drywall Install fixtures and fittings like handles, locks, and hinges Select and evaluate materials for defects Read and interpret blueprints and designs Liaise with clients, suppliers, and other tradesmen Follow all standards for kitchen and bathroom remodelling Source timber by size, strength, and budget Assess and review additional refurbishments Perform finish carpentry, including siding, flooring, and built-ins Install foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using various materials (wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics) Fit and install window and door frames, using carpenter's levels and laser levels Erect scaffolding and ladders for high-level work Shape and cut materials to specified measurements using hand and power tools Follow safety rules and maintain a clean worksite Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, and floors Assemble and fasten materials for frameworks Remove and replace damaged parts of structures Inspect structures to detect broken or damaged areas Move materials on the job site and clean up debris Undertake other tasks as neededAbout You: Skills (Essential): Able to follow instructions and communicate with co-workers Attentive to detail and safety Physically fit with a proactive and positive approach Good communication, time management, and organisational skills Contributes to a positive working environment Strong service ethos and commitment to excellence Works well under pressure and to deadlines Numerate and literate Process drivenKnowledge and Experience (Essential): Minimum of 4 years of experience in commercial or residential carpentry Ability to read blueprints and building plans Strong knowledge of job site safety Full, clean driving license (Desirable): Health & Safety Training Knowledge of standard building materials and equipment Own vehicle (a company vehicle may be provided)Personal Attributes (Essential): Team player Calm under pressure Able to work to deadlines Thorough, conscientious, and quality-conscious Professional appearance Pro-active and takes initiative Honest and flexible Able to build professional relationships Self-motivatedAdditional Requirements: Meet all responsibilities as per company procedures Maintain confidentiality Flexible to work outside standard hours when necessary Sound knowledge of the company's services Participate in improving working practices to reduce waste and costsBenefits: 20 days of paid holiday per year (in addition to 8 UK Bank Holidays) Company van and fuel card for business use only Pension scheme after a qualifying period Employee referral scheme Discretionary bonus scheme after qualifying periodPlease note that benefits will not apply to self-employed candidates.
