Job Description

Role Summary Deliver practical and theoretical carpentry training to students across a range of levels (e.g., Level 1-3, apprenticeships). Use trade experience to support learners in developing strong hands-on carpentry skills, workshop practices, safe working, and readiness for employment or further study. Key Responsibilities * Plan and deliver practical carpentry sessions, demonstrating bench & site work (e.g., frame work, roofing, joinery, finishing). * Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, and learning resources. * Assess learner competence in practical carpentry, mark theoretical assessments, provide feedback. * Promote and enforce health & safety, ensuring workshop safety, correct use of tools, PPE, and risk assessments. * Work with other staff to integrate functional skills (maths, English, measuring/reading plans) and employability skills into carpentry training. * Track learner progress, maintain records of attendance, performance, and development. * Provide support to learners who need extra help; adapt delivery to suit different learning styles. * Assist with workshop setup, materials preparation, tool inventory, and maintenance of equipment. Essential Skills & Experience * Proven trade experience in carpentry / joinery (bench & site work). * A relevant formal qualification in carpentry or joinery (e.g. NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent). * Good communication skills; able to explain techniques and theory clearly. * Strong organisational skills and punctuality. * Ability to supervise learners safely in workshop environments. * Enthusiasm for teaching / mentoring – able to motivate and guide learners
