About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Carpentry Lecturer to join our Construction department at the Rainham campus. You will deliver high-quality teaching across a range of programmes, primarily focused on Level 1–3 Diplomas, T-Levels, and apprenticeship standards in Carpentry and Joinery. You will play a key role in developing students’ trade skills, confidence, and career prospects in the construction industry.
🧰 Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and practical lessons in Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery
*
Assess learner progress and provide effective feedback to support achievement and progression
*
Design teaching materials and learning resources to meet curriculum standards and awarding body criteria
*
Deliver and assess practical sessions in well-equipped workshops and ensure a safe learning environment
*
Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and progress in line with college systems
*
Support learners’ development of English, maths, and employability skills within carpentry sessions
*
Prepare learners for internal and external assessments, including City & Guilds and T-Level exams
*
Participate in curriculum planning, internal verification, and standardisation activities
*
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including employers and industry partners
*
Contribute to the wider college community and continuous quality improvement initiatives
✅ Essential Criteria
*
Level 3 qualification in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent)
*
Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, or Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training) or willingness to work towards
*
Relevant industry experience in the construction or joinery sector
*
Strong communication and organisational skills
*
Commitment to safeguarding, diversity, and inclusion
*
Good IT skills for e-learning, lesson planning, and progress tracking
➕ Desirable Criteria
*
Assessor qualification (e.g., A1, TAQA)
*
Internal Quality Assurance qualification (IQA)
*
Experience of delivering apprenticeship standards or T-Levels
*
Experience teaching 16–19-year-olds or adults in an FE or training environment
*
Experience embedding employability, health & safety, and sustainability into vocational delivery
