To support current growth, this position will be based in our head office in Manchester but may require occasional travel as required on a project basis.
Role Purpose
The CFD Applications Engineer would take a role as part of the simulation and modelling team, working closely with the Data Centre Design team, validating and optimising the internal and external cooling systems of Data Centres through the use of CFD, producing reports and providing key input into our projects.
The CFD Applications Engineer is expected to develop a level of design capability allowing them to conceptualise and develop solutions to performance problems which may be encountered.
Personal Specification
The suitable candidate will have experience in CFD and Engineering, and will ideally be a qualified with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM subject; Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.
You will be capable of working both independently and as part of a team as required for the delivery of a technical report. You will be able to think creatively to resolve issues encountered with a design in order to provide a solution with meets the required client specifications including designing system to control air flow such as barriers, chimneys, and funnels to improve airflow.
Separate from their professional engineering bias, the suitable candidate will be interested in developing a multi-disciplinary understanding of technologies used in Data Centres and other buildings such as UPS Systems, Standby Generation (e.g Diesel Generators), Chilled Water Networks, Cooling Towers, Control and Monitoring systems.

3. Assess, assist and communicate with the Data Centre Design team for critical infrastructure projects, participating in meetings when necessary.
4. Produce design solutions with respect to different client goals; energy efficiency, low temperature, high performance, low cost.
5. Communicate with manufacturers and other specialists as required to obtain equipment technical specifications.
6. Theorising the “worst-case” scenario of equipment failures in order to assess the robustness of a design subject to failure.
7. Managing workflows to meet given deadlines effectively.
8. Carry out audits of in-development and completed sites to produce models of existing cooling systems for assessment and optimisation.
9. Develop high quality visualisations of CFD results, case studies, and white-papers on design-insights and techniques.

* Fully proficient with standard office software (Word/Excel/Powerpoint), a basic understanding of AutoCAD / Revit and BIM would be preferred although not essential.
* Experience with an industry standard CFD package, for example Autodesk CFD, ANSYS, Star-CCM+, Comsol, OpenFOAM or similar.
* Good communicator, both in writing and on the telephone.
* Able to prioritise tasks and manage time, to meet tender return deadlines.
