ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Provide direct support as part of the care and support plan based on assessed need of children and young people including children and young people who are Looked After, or who may be the subject of other statutory or court related order(s).
Undertake assessments of children and young people in need of care and support, where required, under the direction of a team manager, or senior practitioner.
Represent the authority and liaise with partner agencies both statutory and voluntary in the provision of services for children, young people, and their families.
Contribute to Service Development initiatives.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Mainly office based at one of the Social Services Offices based at various locations in the borough. Also required to make visits to families and other agencies.
Required to work flexible hours, within and beyond the boundaries of the authority, which may include evenings and weekends.
DETAILED TASKS
Provide direct support as part of the care and support plan based on assessed need of children and young people including children and young people who are Looked After, or who may be the subject of other statutory or court related order(s).
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, young people, their families/carers and colleagues within social services and other agencies.
Work sensitively with adults, children and young people who may be experiencing stress and trauma, whilst maintaining a clear focus upon the needs and wellbeing of the child or young person at all times.
Transport young people to necessary appointments.
Undertake any work with children, young people, and their families as part of their care and support plan.
Where required, and with appropriate support, appear in court proceedings to give evidence on behalf of the authority.

Regularly attend and contribute to supervision, team meetings, case reviews and other relevant meetings.
QUALIFICATION
Level 2 Care or equivalent qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales (CQFW).
KNOWLEDGE
Understand and respect confidentiality and the importance of managing personal and sensitive information in a professional manner.
Understanding of parents/carers needs and requirements for additional support.
Understanding of children and young people’s behaviour, and the need for support and intervention in some circumstances.
SKILLS
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with children young people and their families.
Able to work as part of a team.
Able to develop good working relationships, with children young people and their families.
Able to work with individuals who may present challenging behaviour in a variety of settings.
Ability to carry out tasks within a busy and frequently changing work environment.
Excellent keyboard skills and an understanding of the need for accountability in recording accurate and timely case records.
Able to work to tight deadlines.
Ability to work in partnership with agencies and families in assessing/planning for child and young people in need of care and support.
EXPERIENCE
Experience of working with children, young people and their families.
Experience of working with people in complex situations.
OTHER
Prepared to work flexible hours, within and beyond the boundaries of the authority, which may include evenings and weekends.
