Sue Ross Legal are seeking a highly organised and proactive individual to join our client’s Child Care Law Team as a Care Paralegal/Administrator. This hybrid role combines essential administrative duties with legal support, ensuring smooth and efficient operations while providing excellent client service. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, and a keen interest in developing legal expertise in Family Law.
Administrative Duties
* Maintain and update client files with all necessary documentation (e.g. NOIs, NOAs, legal aid certificates)
* File documents, manage closed files, and ensure proper record-keeping
* Transfer files to Billing upon completion of closing file checklist
* Handle general admin tasks including filing, copying, and scanning documents
* Manage incoming correspondence via email and telephone
* Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements (LAA Standard Contract, SRA Code of Conduct, Quality Mark standards).
* Accurately record time and work undertaken using firm systems (Case Management)
* Participate in reception rota and other general office activities as required
* Perform other administrative tasks to support the business as needed.
Paralegal Duties
* Prepare legal documents including Notice of Issue, Notice of Acting, and Delegated Functions
* Managing correspondence and telephone queries through Triage
* Arrange and attend appointments with clients (new, current, and former), handling initial instructions and referrals
* Assess client financial eligibility and explain funding options (Legal Aid/Public/Private)
* Maintain effective diary management including court dates, deadlines, and tribunal timetables
* Draft legal documents (Statements, Applications, Legal Forms) under supervision
* Attend court hearings, PLO meetings, and advocate meetings as needed
* Support Fee Earners in progressing cases and liaising with clients and professionals
* Obtain, review, and organize evidence and statements
* Communicate effectively with Counsel, Medical Experts, and other third parties
* Ensure progress on cases is efficient and client communications are timely and informative
* Prepare files for billing and closure, ensuring completeness and accuracy
* Engage in training and development to enhance legal knowledge and practical skills
The ideal candidate will be a logical and analytical thinker with excellent written and oral communincation skills. Previous history in family law/child proceedings is desireable (but not essential), as well as previous experience using an electronic case management system.
