Job Description

Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a specialist team supporting vulnerable young people seeking asylum in the UK. The role focuses on age assessments, care planning, and ensuring positive outcomes for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people. Key Responsibilities As a UASC Social Worker, you will: Conduct comprehensive age assessments in line with Home Office and legal guidance. Manage tribunal and care proceedings, ensuring timely and accurate submissions. Implement and manage triple planning strategies to support UASC. Prepare detailed, analytical assessments and statutory reports. Develop and maintain SMART care plans tailored to each young person's needs. Represent Birmingham Children's Trust confidently in professional and legal forums. Demonstrate professional autonomy and sound decision-making in complex cases. Work flexibly and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. Support UASC young people with their well-being, integration, and long-term outcomes. Stay up to date with relevant legislation, case law, and statutory guidance in children's social care and asylum. Participate in duty cover on a rotational basis. Engage in ongoing continuous professional development.Essential Requirements To be successful in this role, you must have: A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree or equivalent). Social Work England registration (current and active). Minimum 3 years' post-qualified experience in Children's Services, ideally working with UASC or Looked After Children. A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance, including the Children Act 1989 and asylum law.Why Work With Birmingham Children's Trust?
