Civil Design Engineer - Water
A long-established Civil Engineering and Utilities services company operating across Yorkshire and the wider region, with full Design & Build capabilities, is seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join its integrated design team based in Wakefield. This role offers an excellent opportunity to play a key part in the delivery of both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects within the water and utilities sector, contributing to the design and development of high-quality engineering solutions for a range of public and private clients.
You will be responsible for leading and coordinating civil and drainage design activities from outline through to detailed design, construction and commissioning support. They will prepare design solutions, drawings, specifications, reports, calculations and cost estimates in line with client requirements and industry standards, ensuring technical excellence and compliance. Regular liaison with clients and project stakeholders, attendance at design and progress meetings, and the review and checking of peers' work to maintain design quality will all form an essential part of the role.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across multiple engineering disciplines, the Civil Design Engineer will contribute to the resolution of technical challenges, maintain strong client relationships and ensure that project objectives are delivered on time and to the highest standards. The role also involves mentoring and supporting junior engineers, technicians and apprentices, promoting professional growth within the team, and upholding company values of quality, safety and respect for the community.
Applicants should hold a relevant engineering qualification and be Chartered or actively working towards Chartership with a professional institution such as the ICE. You must have proven experience in civil design within the UK water sector, including drainage, clean water and treatment works design. A sound understanding of Sewer Sector Guidance standards and the UK Water Industry is essential, along with proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D and drainage modelling tools like InfoDrainage or MicroDrainage. Familiarity with BIM integration and hydraulic profiling would be advantageous.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, a collaborative approach to teamwork and a commitment to continuous professional development. A full UK driving licence is required.
