Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Design Lead to manage the end-to-end delivery of civil design on complex infrastructure projects, with a strong emphasis on the water and wastewater sector. You will lead multidisciplinary design teams, drive innovative solutions, and ensure technical excellence from concept through to construction support. This is an exciting opportunity for a design professional ready to step into a leadership role that combines technical delivery, stakeholder management, and team development. Key Responsibilities * Lead the design coordination and delivery of infrastructure projects, primarily within the water and wastewater sector, ensuring alignment with client requirements, programme, and quality standards. * Collaborate with Project Managers and Operations teams to report on progress, risks, and design changes, contributing to project strategy and risk mitigation at the design stage. * Act as the primary point of contact for design packages across both infrastructure and non-infrastructure elements. * Manage design interfaces across disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, etc.) ensuring constructability and integration into construction methodologies. * Support the development of CDM deliverables and ensure design risks are clearly identified and communicated. * Oversee document control processes and quality systems to maintain clear and auditable design records. * Provide mentorship and technical support to junior engineers and graduates, contributing to capability building within the team. * Coordinate with wider business functions (e.g., procurement, construction, enabling works) to ensure smooth and efficient project delivery. * Promote and implement innovative design solutions that add value to the client and project delivery. Requirements Essential: * Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. * Significant experience in civil design and design coordination within the UK water industry (e.g. working with Scottish Water, United Utilities, Thames Water, etc.). * Strong understanding of CDM Regulations, health & safety, and risk management in design. * Proven experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams across all project stages. * Familiarity with design document management and quality management systems. * Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. * Ability to manage and mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative working environment. Desirable: * Chartered or working toward Chartership (ICE or equivalent). * Experience in digital design tools, BIM, and collaborative platforms. * Prior exposure to working on frameworks (e.g. MSP, DV2, AMP) is an advantage. * Experience liaising with academic or research institutions and driving innovation in infrastructure delivery. What We Offer * A dynamic working environment with opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. * Involvement in high-impact infrastructure projects shaping the future of water and environmental sustainability. * Competitive salary and benefits package. * Flexible working arrangements (hybrid/remote options depending on the project and location)
