Civil Site Supervisor – HV Substation (Wymondley, SG4 7JJ)
Location: Wymondley 400kV Substation, Hertfordshire
Rate: £400 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract Type: Full-time, site-based, contract
Duration: 18-month project | 6-month contract | Start: 26 August 2025
Hours: 50 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
MRR Infrastructure is recruiting on behalf of a globally respected engineering consultancy delivering complex high-voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. Known for their leadership in power transmission and distribution (T&D), our client operates across multiple National Grid and DNO frameworks, with a focus on safety, sustainability and delivery excellence.
We are seeking a Civil Site Supervisor to support the build of a major 400kV substation in Hertfordshire. This role is suited to an experienced professional with a strong background in civil works and site supervision within the HV sector.
Role Overview:
You will work alongside the Site Manager to lead and supervise daily civil construction activities, ensuring that all works are delivered to programme, in line with safety, environmental and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Supervise all civil construction activities on site and ensure compliance with CDM regulations
*
Set others to work and monitor task execution against the project programme
*
Support implementation of Safe Systems of Work, including issuing Permits to Dig
*
Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental management
*
Monitor subcontractor performance and provide timely guidance and support
*
Contribute to the preparation of reports, site records and progress updates
*
Ensure the project’s KPIs are achieved or exceeded
*
Promote and feed back best practice into the wider project and business
*
Support the delivery of quality standards, inspections and as-built documentation
*
Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with site procedures and client requirements
Essential Requirements:
*
Minimum 5 years’ civil construction experience in the T&D industry, preferably on National Grid projects
*
Previous supervisory experience in a HV substation environment
*
National Grid Competent Person NSI 6 & 8 (Full)
*
CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport
*
Full UK driving licence
*
HSG47 and First Aid (3-day)
*
IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS or SSSTS
*
Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills
Desirable:
*
HNC/HND in Civil Engineering
*
Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor certification
*
Impressed Voltage training
*
IOSH Environmental or equivalent
Additional Information:

Site-based role requiring mobility across construction terrain for extended periods
*
Expectation of national travel depending on project needs
