Job Description

Clinical Lead – Mental Health, Learning Disability & Crisis Response Salary: £45,000–£50,000 per annum, depending on experience Location: Sutton. About the Role Medgen is looking for an experienced Clinical Lead to join our clinical team, supporting the rapid mobilisation and management of care and support services across a range of complex and often high-risk environments. This is not a traditional caseload-based clinical role. The role is focused on providing clinical leadership, crisis management and rapid operational support where individuals require an immediate or enhanced package of care, including situations where staffing needs to be mobilised at short notice. You will work closely with commissioners, families, social care professionals, healthcare professionals and operational teams to assess risk, determine appropriate staffing requirements and ensure that safe, clinically appropriate support is put in place. You will be expected to respond confidently to changing circumstances, identify clinical and safeguarding risks, and provide clear direction to staff working in challenging environments. Key Responsibilities * Provide clinical leadership and oversight across a portfolio of complex and high-risk care and support arrangements, responding to urgent and crisis situations through rapid clinical assessment, risk management and escalation. Support the mobilisation of staff for new, urgent or enhanced care packages, sometimes at short notice, and support the safe mobilisation, transition and stabilisation of new services. * Assess individuals' needs, risks, presentation and level of support required, advising on appropriate staffing arrangements. Determine the appropriate staff skill mix and clinical competencies required for individual packages, providing clinical direction and support to Healthcare Assistants, Support Workers and Nurses working within services. Undertake clinical assessments, reviews and risk assessments and ensure appropriate care and support plans are in place. * Provide advice and clinical oversight where individuals present with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism, behaviours that challenge or complex care requirements. Support the management of incidents, safeguarding concerns, medication issues and other clinical risks, and lead or contribute to investigations, incident reviews and lessons-learned processes where required. * Carry out quality assurance visits, spot checks and clinical audits, assess and sign off staff competencies relevant to the individual's care and identified risks, and provide clinical supervision, coaching and guidance to staff. Identify gaps in staffing, competency, training or clinical provision and implement appropriate actions. * Work collaboratively with families, commissioners, social workers, case managers and other professionals. Escalate significant clinical, safeguarding or operational risks through the appropriate governance structures, ensuring clinical documentation, risk assessments, care plans and records are accurate, current and compliant. * Promote safe practice in accordance with NMC standards, safeguarding requirements, CQC expectations and relevant legislation and guidance. Contribute to the continuous development of Medgen's clinical governance and crisis response processes. What We're Looking For We are looking for a confident registered nurse who is comfortable working in complex, unpredictable and fast-moving environments. You must have: * Current and valid NMC registration as one of the following: Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), Registered Adult Nurse (RN/RGN), or Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD/RLDN). * Relevant clinical experience within mental health, learning disabilities, autism, complex care, challenging behaviour or other high-risk care environments, alongside experience of assessing clinical risk and making sound professional decisions. * Experience working with individuals whose needs may change rapidly or who require enhanced support, including providing clinical direction to care and support staff and conducting staff competency assessments and clinical supervision. * Strong understanding of safeguarding, incident management and escalation, with excellent clinical judgement and the ability to remain calm and decisive during crisis situations. * Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with families, commissioners and multidisciplinary professionals, while working autonomously and recognising when escalation is required. * Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands. * A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required. What Would Make You Stand Out Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable: crisis intervention or urgent care mobilisation; mental health or learning disability services; autism and behaviours that challenge; complex or high-dependency care; safeguarding investigations; incident investigation and clinical governance; rapid mobilisation of care packages; working alongside local authorities, ICBs, social care or commissioning teams; and managing services where staffing or clinical support needs to be increased at short notice. What We Offer * Competitive salary of £45,000–£50,000, depending on experience. * Remote working with travel required according to service needs. * A varied role with significant clinical and operational responsibility. * Ongoing professional development and training. * Support from an experienced clinical and operational leadership team. * Opportunities to contribute to the development of Medgen's clinical governance and service model. * Career progression opportunities. * Company pension and generous annual leave entitlement. Right to Work Please note: Medgen does not currently hold a UK Sponsorship Licence. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Join Medgen If you are an experienced registered nurse who can assess risk, take control during a crisis, mobilise the right staff and provide confident clinical leadership, we would like to hear from you. This is an opportunity to play a key role in ensuring that individuals with complex needs receive safe, responsive and clinically appropriate support when they need it most
