Job Description: CNC Water Jet Workshop Assistant
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Workshop Assistant to support our waterjet cutting operations. The ideal candidate will hold a valid forklift licence, be hands-on with machinery, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. You will play a vital role in ensuring smooth production processes, safe handling of materials, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency in the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate and assist with CNC waterjet cutting machines (training provided if required).
* Load, unload, and move raw materials, cut parts, and finished products using a forklift truck.
* Prepare materials for cutting, including measuring, marking, and securing workpieces.
* Carry out basic maintenance checks, cleaning, and upkeep of waterjet machinery and tools.
* Inspect cut components for accuracy and quality against drawings/specifications.
* Manage packaging, labelling, and dispatch of completed orders.
* Maintain a safe, clean, and organised workshop environment, complying with all health & safety policies.
Skills & Requirements
* Valid counterbalance or reach forklift licence (in-date and accredited).
* Previous workshop, fabrication, or manufacturing experience desirable.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (training provided if needed).
* Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight tolerances.
* Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling tasks.
* Team player with good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
Desirable (but not essential)
* Experience operating CNC machinery (waterjet, laser, plasma, or similar).
* Knowledge of different metals, plastics, and composite materials.
* Basic IT/computer literacy for machine operation and job tracking.
Working Conditions
* Workshop environment (noise, dust).
* Manual handling of sheet materials and parts.
* Shift patterns / overtime may be required depending on workload.
Package
* Commencement of Employment: 29th September 2025
* Remuneration: £25,000 Per Year, Gross – Paid monthly
PAYE, Tax and NI deductions at source
* Overtime rates: x1.5 weekdays, x2 weekends
* Hours of work: 40 Hrs/week – 09:00 to 17:00 Mon-Fri. 30-minute lunchbreak
* Probation Period: 3 Months from commencement date. (No holiday entitlement)
* Review Period: 6 months from commencement date.
* Paid Holiday Entitlement: 21 Days/annum plus Bank Holidays
* Sick Leave/Pay: Statutory Sick Pay with self-certification
* Pension Scheme: A Contribution Pension Scheme is available after 3 months
