Are you a senior commercial leader ready to take the reins of a major regional operation? We’re working in partnership with a top-tier building contractor to appoint a Commercial Director for their thriving Western Region, based in Bristol.
This is a standout opportunity to join one of the UK’s most respected main contractors—well-known for delivering high-profile, complex projects across the commercial, healthcare, education, and public sectors. As part of the regional leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping commercial strategy and driving performance across the region.
The Role
As Commercial Director, you will be accountable for all commercial functions in the region—including pre and post-contract disciplines, commercial governance, team leadership, strategic planning, and financial performance reporting. You will be the commercial lead on the regional board and act as the key interface between project teams, regional leadership, national forums, and the wider business.
Key responsibilities include:

Overseeing commercial operations, procurement, estimating, and surveying
*
Preparing and presenting commercial sections of the Operational Plan
*
Leading forecasting, cash flow, MFRs, and SAP reporting
*
Driving contractual and legal compliance, working closely with in-house legal and insurance teams
*
Managing key stakeholder relationships and dispute resolution as required
*
Leading, mentoring, and developing a high-performing commercial team
What We’re Looking For
You’ll be a commercially astute, people-focused leader with strong experience at senior management level—ideally within a Tier 1 contractor environment. You should bring:

Professional qualification (e.g. MRICS or equivalent)
*
Deep knowledge of the regional construction market and supply chain
*
Proven experience managing commercial teams and complex multi-disciplinary projects
*
Strong strategic, financial, and contractual acumen
*
Confident communicator and natural collaborator with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders
*
High-level IT systems proficiency (SAP, Stage Gate, bespoke reporting tools)
