Job Description

A leading business in south Norfolk is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Commercial Director to lead its commercial function and drive sustained revenue growth. This is a pivotal senior leadership role, reporting to the executive team and responsible for shaping the entire commercial vision and strategy. About the Role The Commercial Director is an influential role with considerable responsibility and input into all aspects of the business's strategy. The individual will be tasked with identifying and capitalising on emerging market opportunities, expanding customer relationships, and ensuring the continued success of the UK operation. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Commercial Leadership: Design, develop, and implement a robust commercial and sales strategy that aligns with short-term and long-term business objectives. This includes identifying new revenue streams, developing growth initiatives across product channels, and driving sales of new, high-specification products and routes to market. Team and Inter-departmental Leadership: Directly lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to exceed targets and achieve commercial goals. The Director will also be a key collaborator, working with other departments such as Marketing, Operations, Engineering, Customer Service, and Finance to ensure operational efficiency and support company-wide objectives. Financial & Commercial Acumen: Drive contract negotiations, pricing strategies, and commercial terms with customers, trade partners, and distributors to ensure desired profitability. The role requires the development and enforcement of robust commercial policies, including pricing and customer engagement protocols, and a focus on fostering a culture of financial discipline and accountability. Market Analysis and External Relations: Monitor and report on the competitive landscape and market trends to influence strategic direction. The Commercial Director will be the face of the business at industry events, establishing and maintaining senior-level relationships with corporate clients, key stakeholders, and industry partners to expand the company's network and influence. Product and Market Development: Contribute to the overall product and market development strategy by working closely with the innovation team and key stakeholders within the wider corporate business.Key Competencies: Exceptional Leadership: The ability to inspire and manage a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture. Strategic Thinking and Decision-Making: A proven track record of making data-driven decisions and developing long-term strategies that result in sustained business growth. Financial & Negotiation Skills: Strong financial acumen, including budget management and an ability to negotiate and influence at all levels. Resilience and Adaptability: The capacity to thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment, balancing autonomous work with a team-oriented approach. High Integrity: A commitment to transparency, honesty, and accountability in all commercial dealings.Qualifications & Experience: A minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in a senior commercial leadership role. Significant experience in the utilities or industrial sector is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful commercial strategies that have resulted in tangible revenue and market share growth. Excellent presenting and reporting skills, including proficiency with CRM systems. Experience with Microsoft D365 is a plus. Willingness to travel extensively across the UK, to the company’s headquarters on a regular basis, and to international trade exhibitions as required.On offer is a market leading salary & benefits package.
