Commercial Gas Engineer (Mobile Role)
Full-Time | Permanent | Central Belt, Scotland
A leading provider of mechanical and electrical services is seeking a skilled Commercial Gas Engineers to join its Facilities Management Division. This mobile role is essential in delivering high-quality planned and reactive maintenance across various commercial sites.
Reporting to the FM Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial gas systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. The role involves regular travel between client sites and occasional out-of-hours support via a rota system.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Maintenance
Install commercial gas appliances, pipework, and associated systems according to design specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
Carry out routine and emergency maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs.
Test, commission, and certify gas systems before handover.
Electrical & Control Systems
Perform basic fault finding and electrical diagnostics.
Operate control panels and building management systems (BMS), where applicable.
Safety & Compliance
Work in line with Gas Safe regulations and relevant British Standards.
Comply with all site-specific risk assessments and health and safety protocols.
Use MEWPs and boom lifts when required and report any unsafe conditions immediately.
Documentation & Reporting
Complete gas safety certificates, job sheets, and commissioning documentation accurately.
Maintain detailed work logs for compliance and internal reporting.
Keep supervisors updated on job status and any site issues.
Team Collaboration
Work effectively alongside other engineers and trades to ensure efficient project delivery.
Mentor apprentices and junior team members.
Communicate clearly with site teams and contractors to resolve on-site technical issues.
Skills & Qualifications
Valid ACS commercial gas qualifications (e.g. COCN1, ICPN1, TPCP1A/B, CORT1, CIGA1, CDGA1).
Current Gas Safe registration.
Strong understanding of electrical systems and control panels; 18th Edition preferred.
Experience in facilities management, including PPMs, reactive maintenance, and emergency callouts.
Comfortable working at height; IPAF and/or PASMA desirable.
Additional qualifications in LPG, oil, or catering gas systems are a plus.
Flexibility to work overtime and participate in an on-call rota as needed.
Working Conditions
This is a mobile role based across various commercial sites in the central belt of Scotland. The role includes a mix of planned maintenance and urgent reactive works, requiring flexibility and strong problem-solving skills. Travel between sites is a key aspect of the role.
