Job Description

Conrad Consulting are working with a well-established and highly respected contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality construction and refurbishment projects across a range of sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Lead to oversee and develop their commercial function while playing a key role in the strategic direction of the business.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious commercial leader who enjoys working closely with senior management, influencing business decisions, and developing high-performing teams.

The Role of the Commercial Lead:

Reporting into the senior leadership team, the Commercial Lead will be responsible for driving commercial performance across the business, ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong commercial governance and contractual compliance.

You'll lead the commercial team, oversee the estimating function, and work closely with operational colleagues to provide commercial support from tender stage through to project completion.

Key responsibilities of the Commercial Lead include:

Leading and developing the Quantity Surveying and Estimating teams.
	
Managing the commercial performance of multiple construction projects.
	
Overseeing cost management, valuations, variations, final accounts and commercial reporting.
	
Providing commercial guidance and support to project delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle.
	
Supporting procurement strategies and subcontractor commercial management.
	
Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
	
Reviewing tenders and ensuring commercially robust submissions.
	
Advising on contractual matters, including NEC and JCT forms of contract.
	
Working alongside senior leadership to improve commercial processes, drive profitability and support continued business growth.

Requirements of the Commercial Lead:

To be successful in this role you'll bring significant commercial experience within the construction industry and have a proven ability to lead people as well as projects.

You'll ideally have:

A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
	
Extensive experience in a senior Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management role.
	
Previous experience managing commercial teams and developing people.
	
Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts.
	
Experience of estimating, tendering or pre-construction activities.
	
Excellent commercial awareness with the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels.
	
A collaborative leadership style and a proactive approach to problem solving.
