Commercial Manager - Design & Build Contractor
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 + package
About the Company
A leading Design & Build contractor specialising in high-quality laboratory and commercial office fit-out projects across Cambridge and the surrounding region. With project values up to £7.5 million, they deliver innovative workspaces for clients in both the commercial and life sciences sectors.
The Role
As a Commercial Manager, you will take the lead on all commercial activities across multiple projects, ensuring profitability, cost control, and strong client relationships. You will be a key member of the senior management team, responsible for overseeing commercial performance and mentoring junior surveyors.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the commercial function on projects up to £7.5m.
Manage procurement, subcontractor negotiation, and supply chain relationships.
Lead on valuations, change management, variations, and final accounts.
Prepare and review CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and monthly reporting.
Ensure projects remain on budget while maintaining client satisfaction.
Provide guidance and mentoring to Assistant/Project QS team members.
Work closely with Directors, Project Managers, and clients to deliver successful outcomes.
About You
Proven experience as a Senior QS or Commercial Manager within fit-out or D&B.
Strong knowledge of laboratory or commercial office fit-out projects.
Track record of managing projects £2m - £7.5m in value.
Excellent negotiation, client-facing, and leadership skills.
Ambitious, commercially astute, and able to take ownership of projects.
Package & Benefits
Salary £75,000 - £85,000 (dependent on experience).
