Commissioning Engineer – Water Sector (Contract)
Location: Midlands (Severn Trent Water Sites)
Contract: Temporary / Contract
Rate: £450–£500 per day (Outside IR35 subject to determination)
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the Severn Trent Water network in the Midlands.
This is a site-based contract role, ideal for a commissioning professional with a strong MEICA background and proven experience working on UK water utility projects.
The Role
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for testing, proving and bringing new water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment works and pumping stations into operation, ensuring systems are safe, reliable and fully operational before client handover.
Key Responsibilities
* Commissioning MEICA installations on water and wastewater treatment projects.
* Carrying out Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), loop checks, functional testing, dry and wet commissioning, and performance testing.
* Reviewing commissioning plans, P&IDs, Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and control philosophies.
* Diagnosing and resolving commissioning issues to ensure successful project delivery.
* Working closely with project teams, subcontractors and Severn Trent Water representatives.
* Ensuring all commissioning activities are completed safely and in accordance with Permit to Work procedures, RAMS and LOTO requirements.
* Completing commissioning documentation, test records, O&M manuals and handover packs.
* Supporting the successful handover of commissioned assets to the client.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Proven experience commissioning MEICA installations on water or wastewater treatment projects.
* Previous experience working on Severn Trent Water projects or other UK water utility frameworks.
* Strong understanding of:
* Pumps
* Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
* Valves
* Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
* PLCs
* SCADA systems
* Experience carrying out FATs, SATs, loop checks, functional testing, dry and wet commissioning, and performance testing.
* Ability to interpret P&IDs, Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and control philosophies.
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
* Experience producing commissioning documentation, O&M manuals, test records and handover packs.
* Knowledge of Permit to Work systems, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), RAMS and commissioning on live operational water sites.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Midlands.

* £450–£500 per day (depending on experience).
* Temporary contract.
* Outside IR35 (subject to determination).
