This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Electrician or electrically biased Maintenance Engineer who has gained a few years’ practical experience and is looking to move into a specialist commissioning career. You don’t already need to be an Instrument Commissioning Engineer. The company is prepared to train and develop someone with the right electrical background, practical ability and attitude. The successful Junior Instrument Commissioning Engineer will be home based and need to live in Yorkshire. You’ll travel directly from home to customer sites across the region, with work planned geographically wherever possible to minimise unnecessary travelling. Key aspects of the Junior Instrument Commissioning Engineer role include: * Learning how to commission, configure, test and calibrate industrial instrumentation * Developing experience with equipment such as flow meters and level measurement instrumentation * Carrying out site surveys and helping establish requirements for upcoming projects * Supporting commissioning and testing activities on customer sites * Working alongside experienced Commissioning Engineers, electrical contractors and other site teams * Developing an understanding of PLCs, SCADA and industrial control systems * Working directly with customers and contractors as your experience develops * Typically arriving on site around 8:00-8:30am and, on normal days, leaving around 3:30-4:00pm * Paid overtime when projects require additional hours, although extensive overtime isn’t expected The successful Junior Instrument Commissioning Engineer will need: * A recognised electrical apprenticeship or electrical qualification – this is essential * Practical experience working as an Electrician, Maintenance Electrician, Electrical Technician or similar * A good understanding of industrial electrical equipment * Hands-on fault-finding and problem-solving skills * An interest in developing a career within instrumentation and commissioning * A willingness to learn new equipment and technology * A willingness to work outdoors on operational sites throughout the year * Good communication skills and the confidence to deal with customers and contractors * A full UK driving licence Previous instrumentation or commissioning experience would be useful, but isn’t essential. The client is more interested in finding someone with a solid electrical foundation who wants the opportunity to learn and develop. Candidates could come from manufacturing, maintenance, utilities, process plants, industrial engineering or other electrically biased environments. Benefits include: * £40-45k basic salary * Paid overtime on pre-approved basis * 9% Company pension contribution * Private medical insurance * Discretionary annual bonus * Life assurance * 25 days holiday + bank holidays * Option to purchase up to 5 additional days holiday * Payment of two relevant professional subscriptions * Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme * Ongoing technical training and development This position could suit a Maintenance Electrician, Industrial Electrician, Electrical Technician or electrically biased Maintenance Engineer who has reached the point where they want to move away from routine maintenance and develop into a specialist Instrument Commissioning Engineer. If you’ve completed your electrical training, gained some solid hands-on industrial experience and want a role where you can learn, develop and build a long-term commissioning career, please apply today for an immediate response.
