Job Description

Job Title Commissioning Engineer Location Various sites across the UK Role Purpose You will lead the commissioning of high voltage (HV) systems and equipment to ensure they are installed, tested, and compliant before energisation. This includes substations within Solar, Battery Storage, ICP, and DNO environments, covering voltages from 11kV to 132kV. Key Responsibilities Site Preparation: Assess site readiness and suitability for commissioning. Planning & Documentation: Develop commissioning plans, inspection and test procedures (ITPs), and maintain records. Installation Supervision: Oversee installation work to confirm compliance with design and standards. Testing: Carry out testing across: Switchgear, transformers, cables, battery chargers, signal panels AC/DC, HV/LV electrical systems and SCADA Activities including: Functional checks Ductor, insulation resistance, AC Hipot, VLF testing Primary and secondary injection tests CT analysis and fault finding (core/sheath to earth) Transformer tests (winding resistance, ratio, dissipation factor, vector group, SFRA) Cable Work: Terminate, gland, and test multicore and signal cables. System Configuration: Set up protection relays and adjust logic to achieve design performance. Safety & Quality: Ensure all work meets safety regulations and quality standards. Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve commissioning issues. Customer & Stakeholder Liaison: Represent the company professionally and support client expectations. Training: Mentor junior engineers in systems and safe practices. Other Duties: Provide support as directed by management. Person Specification Education & Qualifications Essential: HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering ECS or EUSR card Full UK driving licence held for at least 12 months Competent Person status for Permits to Work Desirable: City & Guilds 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation AP15 or OP40 certification Experience & Skills Essential: Commissioning and testing HV systems, including: Switchgear functional checks and ductor testing AC Hipot, VLF, and DC pressure tests Injection testing on protection relays CT ratio and knee point analysis Transformer testing (insulation resistance, ratio, vector group, DGPT2/Buchholz checks, SFRA) Fault finding on HV/LV cables Ability to interpret electrical drawings and specifications Proficient with equipment including: Omicron CMC356, CT Analyser, CPC100, Franeo 600, Testrano Sverker 650, HVA 68TD VLF, Megger MIT515, DLRO10HD, Digi Bridge, PFT-1003
