Role Overview
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the on-site installation, commissioning, and validation of bespoke automation and control systems. You'll work closely with design engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure systems are delivered to specification, safely commissioned, and fully operational. This is a hands-on role that combines technical expertise, system testing, and customer interaction, often in high-stakes environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and execute the commissioning of PLC, HMI, SCADA, and safety systems at client sites.
- Verify system functionality against design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, control, and integration issues during installation and commissioning.
- Provide technical support and training to clients during handover and initial operation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to feedback findings, suggest improvements, and assist with system upgrades or modifications.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are conducted in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Prepare accurate commissioning documentation, test reports, and operational manuals.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a commissioning, automation, or control systems engineering role.
- Strong understanding of PLC and HMI systems
- Familiarity with instrumentation, field devices, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
- Experience working with safety-related control systems is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills in live environments.
- Good communication skills and the ability to represent the company on client sites.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites across the UK and internationally (as required).

Desirable Qualifications
- HND, HNC, or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511) is an advantage.
- ECS/CSCS certification or equivalent site safety training.
