Astute's EPC Power team is partnering with a leading Principal Contractor within the UK Power Industry. We have 1 contract requirement for a Commissioning Operator to support the delivery of a large-scale Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) project based in Suffolk.
The Commissioning Operator position comes with a day rate from £400.00 to £500.00 per day outside of IR35.
Key skills and responsibilities:
Proven hands-on experience operating Siemens T3000 DCS during commissioning and start-up phases - this is essential
Operate and monitor plant systems through DCS/PLC (T3000) and other relevant HMI/control systems
Execute start-up and shutdown sequences, adjust operating parameters, and ensure smooth plant transitions under the direction of the Commissioning Manager or Lead Engineers
Carry out field operations such as opening/closing manual valves, switching, and assisting with system line-ups as required
Support loop checks, functional tests, and troubleshooting during commissioning phases
Participate in daily Plan of the Day (POD) meetings to provide operational updates, challenges, and input on resource planning
Accurately log plant parameters using trend charts, logbooks, and other instrumentation - monitor and analyse data for abnormalities
Assist with safe and structured handovers between shifts and provide mentoring/support to other operators
Follow and promote project safety protocols including LOTO, Hot Work Permits, Confined Space, Risk Assessments, and JSA
Support walkdowns and punch-list activities for system handovers from construction to commissioning
Work closely with commissioning engineers, OEM reps, and client teams to ensure safe and compliant commissioning progress
Contribute to the preservation and maintenance planning of rotating and static equipment
Maintain detailed records of system configuration, operational adjustments, and commissioning progress
Candidate requirements:
Must have previous experience operating Siemens T3000 DCS on large-scale power projects
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in commissioning, plant operation, or start-up roles on power stations or large industrial installations
Familiarity with gas turbine operations and associated balance of plant systems
HND/BEng in Electrical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering preferred
Strong communication, reporting, and organisational skills
Confident working in multi-discipline and multicultural teams
High standards of safety awareness and discipline
Experience on OCGT/CCGT projects desirable
