Job Title: Competent Person – Substation Works
Location: Norwich, Norfolk
Employment Type: Contract / Freelance (Civils Package)
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Competent Person to oversee and manage the civil engineering package on a substation project in Norwich. The successful candidate will ensure all works are carried out safely, to specification, and in line with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
*
Act as the Competent Person responsible for supervising and coordinating civil works on site.
*
Oversee activities including foundations, ducting, drainage, concrete works, earthworks, and general substation civils.
*
Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.
*
Monitor health and safety compliance and ensure all operatives follow site procedures.
*
Coordinate subcontractors and ensure works are completed to programme.
*
Conduct inspections, quality checks, and maintain accurate site records.
*
Liaise with site management, engineers, and the client to ensure smooth project delivery.
Requirements
*
Proven experience working as a Competent Person or Supervisor on substation civils projects.
*
Strong knowledge of substation civil engineering works (foundations, cable trenches, ducting, drainage, concrete structures).
*
Good understanding of site safety standards and construction regulations.
*
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
*
Valid CSCS card (Supervisor/Manager level preferred).
*
SSSTS or SMSTS preferred.
