Specialist SEN Tutor - Complex Medical Needs

Remedy Education are looking for an experienced and caring SEN Tutor to provide home-based tuition for a young child in Barking with significant medical and physical needs.
The pupil has a diagnosis of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) and a neuromuscular condition which affects movement, swallowing, and speech. The child is PEG-fed, uses a bone conductor hearing aid, and requires regular airway suctioning, which will be managed by the parent during sessions.
Tuition focuses on sensory learning, using Makaton, rhymes, and stories to encourage communication and engagement. You'll be following a programme designed in collaboration with the child's special school, which provides full resources and ongoing input.
The role:
Deliver engaging sensory-based learning activities in the family home
Use Makaton to support communication and comprehension
Create a calm, supportive, and stimulating environment that encourages interaction
Collaborate with the parent and the school to ensure continuity of learning
Adapt sessions to meet the child's physical and sensory needs
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience working with children with complex medical or physical disabilities (e.g. HIE, PMLD, or neuromuscular conditions)
Be confident using Makaton and sensory resources
Have a patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
Be comfortable supporting children who may drool or have limited mobility
Hold QTS, QTLS, or equivalent tutoring experience
Hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS certificate

Location: Barking (in the family home)
Hours: 2 hours per day, Monday to Friday (no tuition on Thursdays)
