Duties:
* Ensure AAML's operations comply with all applicable UK property laws, housing regulations, landlord-tenant legislation, and council frameworks.
* Monitor and interpret changes in legislation affecting short-let, HMO, development, and guaranteed rent sectors.
* Oversee compliance with GDPR, health and safety regulations, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) rules.
* Draft, review, and update internal compliance policies, procedures, and training manuals.
* Implement risk mitigation strategies across departments (property, leasing, finance, legal, development).
* Embed a compliance-first culture within day-to-day operations and service delivery.
* Work closely with the legal and business development teams to ensure all agreements with landlords, tenants, councils, and contractors are legally sound and compliant.
* Ensure accurate documentation of tenancy agreements, short-let arrangements, council contracts, and vendor agreements.
* Conduct regular risk assessments across all areas of the business including property acquisitions, council partnerships, guest and tenant handling, and property refurbishments.
* Proactively identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
* Manage regulatory obligations tied to housing vulnerable individuals, domestic abuse survivors, and temporary housing placements.
* Liaise with councils to ensure continued alignment with funding terms, safeguarding procedures, and local housing laws.
* Develop and lead internal compliance audits and ensure proper record-keeping of all regulatory requirements.
* Prepare regular compliance reports for senior management and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies or auditors.
* Oversee the handling and resolution of compliance breaches, including root cause analysis and remedial plans.
* Design and deliver training programmes to educate staff on compliance obligations, ethical conduct, and regulatory updates.
* Act as a trusted advisor to departments seeking guidance on compliant operational practices.
* Work closely with external legal advisors, local councils, property regulators, and insurance providers to maintain up-to-date compliance practices.
* Represent the company during inspections or inquiries by government or industry bodies (e.g., HMRC, ICO, local authorities).
Ideal Candidate Profile (to complement above duties)
* Holds a UK law degree and is familiar with property, contract, and housing regulations.
* Holds formal education in business management.
* Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a compliance role within real estate, housing, or property services.
* Deep understanding of UK property law, tenancy legislation, short-let licensing (Airbnb-style), and social housing compliance.
* Strong grasp of regulatory frameworks including GDPR, AML, and safeguarding policies related to vulnerable tenant groups.
* Exceptional attention to detail, high integrity, and excellent written and verbal communication.
* Experience working in or with public sector bodies (e.g. local councils) is highly desirable.
* Able to communicate in English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi
