The Opportunity
A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Construction Superintendent with specialist knowledge in welding to oversee quality surveillance activities on a major UK nuclear construction site. This is a key leadership role, managing a team of field engineers to ensure that all welding-related works meet strict compliance and safety standards.
We would also welcome applications from these industries: oil & gas, petrochemical, defence, aerospace, and heavy infrastructure.
This role would suit candidates working in these roles: Senior Welding Inspector, NDT Supervisor, Welding Engineer, QA/QC Coordinator, Construction Manager, Site Superintendent, Mechanical Supervisor, Fabrication Manager, Quality Manager, or Piping Superintendent.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Lead a team of field engineers to carry out quality surveillance across welding activities on site.
Develop and maintain surveillance plans and ensure alignment with project quality strategies.
Monitor contractor performance against inspection and test plans, identifying and addressing non-conformances.
Provide technical input and raise quality-related documentation for review and approval.
Act as a key liaison between site teams and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and timely reporting.
Support the implementation of safety and quality initiatives to prevent delays or rework.
Contribute to regular reporting cycles, tracking KPIs and performance metrics.
Offer guidance to delivery teams on quality and progress issues, promoting best practices.
Help develop team capability by sharing insights into upcoming site activities and expectations.
Ensure all work is delivered in line with programme timelines and health, safety, and environmental standards.You will have the following qualifications and experience
Significant experience in welding inspection or NDT, ideally with advanced certifications.
Background in welding engineering or quality coordination within large-scale construction projects.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and quality assurance frameworks in high-regulation environments.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of CDM regulations and their application in complex engineering projects.Get in touch now
