Contentious Probate Solicitor — Position Overview
You will manage a varied caseload of medium to high-value disputes in wills, estates, inheritance, and trusts. You’ll work alongside renowned experts in the field with strong opportunity for career progression.
Key Responsibilities of the Contentious Probate Solicitor
Handle contentious probate disputes for claimants and defendants, including challenges to validity of wills
Advise on Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 claims
Manage disputes concerning executors, trustees, and beneficiaries
Draft pleadings, witness statements and settlement correspondence
Engage in ADR and attend mediations, hearings, and client conferences
Maintain compliance and accurate case records
Collaborate with private client and wider litigation teams
Stay current with probate legislation and share expertise within the team
Requirements of the Contentious Probate Solicitor
Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales
2–5 years PQE in contentious probate litigation
Strong advocacy, drafting and negotiation skills
Ability to manage complex and sensitive matters independently
Excellent interpersonal and client-care skills
Highly organised and able to work to deadlines
Desirable
ACTAPS membership or willingness to obtain
Mediation/ADR experience
Ability to support business development initiatives
Exposure to high-value / cross-jurisdictional estates
