Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor (Asset Management)

Location: Cambridge (Hybrid / Regional) Remuneration: £47,000 – £60,000 + Premier Pension & Benefits package including 41 days holiday

Leading Commercial Control for a Landmark Estate

In a market often driven by the relentless cycle of tendering and dispute, this role offers the chance to move away from a consultancy led project-by-project cycle, into a leading Cost Management function, directly for one of the UK’s most significant operational estates

From Grade I listed heritage assets to high-tech laboratories, your expertise will define the contractual and cost methodologies that ensure every pound of operational spend delivers maximum value. This is a position of professional weight, where your ability to design robust financial controls will directly safeguard the commercial integrity of a multi-million-pound portfolio."

Operating as the strategic cost lead, you will take full ownership of the financial frameworks providing expert cost management, valuation oversight, and contractual integrity to ensure every pound of operational spend is optimised.

Reporting to the Senior Leadership Team within Asset Management, you will lead the commercial oversight of the institution’s long-term maintenance expenditure. Your responsibilities will include:

Valuation & Commercial Control: Taking ownership of the financial delivery for major term contracts, ensuring robust measurement, valuation, and cost control across the portfolio.

Process Design: Leading the creation and enhancement of bespoke cost management frameworks and reporting methodologies to ensure maximum transparency.

Contractual Advisory: Acting as the expert on contract administration (NEC/JCT), providing solutions for complex financial variances or disputes.

Strategic Reporting: Translating complex financial data into clear commercial insights to support long-term asset management and investment decisions.

This role is specifically designed for a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager (either PQS or Contractor-side) who excels at the "sharp end" of financial control. You will bring a high degree of commercial acumen and a deep understanding of cost planning within the built environment.

A strong professional background in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (MRICS or equivalent preferred).

A degree in Cost management, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying

Proven experience in cost planning, valuations, and the financial management of term maintenance or M&E contracts.

The ability to define and improve commercial processes within a complex, multi-stakeholder setting.
