Cover Supervisor – Portsmouth Start Date: September 2026 Contract Type: Full Time / Long Term Pay: £100 – £130 per day Location: Portsmouth / Havant area Hours: 8:00am – 3:30pm Supply Desk are working closely with a large and vibrant secondary school in the Portsmouth area, who are seeking a confident, reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate, aspiring teacher, Cover Supervisor or experienced education professional looking to gain valuable experience within a forward-thinking and supportive school environment. The successful candidate will supervise pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, ensuring students remain engaged, focused and on task in the absence of their usual teacher. Overview Supply Desk are currently seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor for a long-term position within a welcoming secondary school serving students aged 11–16. The role will involve delivering pre-set work across Key Stages 3 and 4, maintaining a positive learning environment and supporting students throughout the school day. There is no planning or marking required, making this a fantastic opportunity for graduates and aspiring teachers looking to build their classroom experience. The Role As a Cover Supervisor, your responsibilities will include: Supervising classes in the absence of the usual classroom teacher. Delivering pre-planned lessons and work across a variety of subjects. Supporting students to remain engaged and focused on their learning. Maintaining high expectations for behaviour and learning. Creating a calm, positive and purposeful classroom environment. Following school policies and procedures. Providing support and encouragement to students where required. Liaising with teaching and support staff to ensure effective communication. Supporting the wider school community when required. We are looking for Cover Supervisors who: Have experience working with young people in an educational, coaching, mentoring or youth setting. Are confident managing a classroom and maintaining positive behaviour. Can communicate clearly and build positive relationships with students. Are adaptable, organised and able to think on their feet. Have the confidence to supervise students across different subjects and year groups. Have high expectations of student behaviour and achievement. Are reliable, professional and committed to safeguarding. Hold a degree or have relevant experience working within schools (desirable but not essential). Are passionate about supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.
