Job Description
Seeking to make a significant impact in an alternative education setting? Tradewind Recruitment is collaborating with Alternative Provisions across Hull to find confident, organised, reliable, and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors. This full-time, temp-to-perm opportunity begins in September 2025.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or anyone with experience working with vulnerable young people, particularly those who thrive in a more tailored and supportive learning environment, to build a rewarding career in education.
Key responsibilities include:
Supervising small groups and whole classes in the absence of a teacher, ensuring students remain engaged and on task within an Alternative Provision setting.
Managing challenging classroom behaviour effectively, applying tailored strategies in line with individual student needs and school policies.
Delivering pre-prepared work and facilitating learning, adapting approaches to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students who may have faced barriers to traditional education.
Providing constructive feedback to teachers and school leaders on student progress and conduct, contributing to individualised support plans.
Supporting students across a range of key stages and subjects, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.Ideal candidates will have:
Experience working with young people, ideally in an alternative provision, PRU, or similar setting, or with individuals who present with challenging behaviours or complex needs (e.g., in schools, youth work, outreach, mentoring).
A confident, resilient, and professional approach to managing dynamic classroom environments, with a strong understanding of de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practices.
Excellent communication skills and a calm, positive, and empathetic attitude, with the ability to build rapport quickly with diverse student populations.
A strong interest in alternative education and a genuine passion for re-engaging and supporting young people who may have become disengaged from mainstream schooling.
