Poolhall Recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for Site Operative / Highways Operatives to join their busy Highway Maintenance team.

Role Overview
You’ll be working as part of a dedicated team responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the highway network across the South East, North, and Wales. This role involves working away from home during the week – accommodation and daily food allowance are provided.
It is essential that you are able to:
* Work away from home every week
* Be available for both day and night shifts (up to 70% night work)
* Hold a full UK driving licence
Starting as a Highways Operative, you’ll have the chance to grow into more technical, engineering-led responsibilities, gain further qualifications, and progress through higher pay bandings as you gain experience.
Pay & Progression
Initial pay rates:
* Day shift: £125 per day
* Night shift: £162 per night
Example higher bandings once qualified:
* Band 7: Day £132.30 | Night £171.99
* Band 6: Day £143.33 | Night £186.32
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake a range of highways maintenance and engineering tasks, including:
* General labouring and vegetation clearance
* GPS surveying and drainage surveys (using radar scanning equipment)
* Asset inspections, data collection, and report preparation
* Safely operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and specialist equipment
* Support colleagues and maintain a collaborative team environment
* Communicate effectively with customers, contract partners, and other departments
* Ensure all work complies with company policies, health and safety requirements, and statutory regulations
What We’re Looking For
* Previous experience in Traffic Management or as a Highways Operative / Site Engineer
* Valid CSCS card
* Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
* Highways Passport, Safety Critical Medical, and First Aid qualifications (desirable)
* Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions
* Strong knowledge of health and safety practices
* Proficiency with technology (apps, tablets, Microsoft Office)
* Ability to interpret and follow site plans and instructions
