Adecco are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Customer Accounts Officer to join our clients Council Tax Recovery team. This is a key role within the Revenues service, responsible for the effective administration and enforcement of Council Tax accounts.
You will play a vital part in ensuring the accuracy of Council Tax records, processing exemptions and discounts, and engaging with residents and stakeholders to support timely and fair collection of revenues.

Public Sector - Local Authority
Full Time - Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
Temporary Role - 3 months with likely extension
£20.31 per hour PAYE / £26.91 per hour Umbrella
Home Working with the need to be in Ealing office on occasion for training, meetings and court hearings etc
IT Equipment provided - Surface Pro and Headset
Aiming for a start date of either Thursday 3rd or Thursday 17th July 2025
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and update Council Tax accounts using internal systems in accordance with statutory and procedural requirements.
Investigate and determine liability for Council Tax, including entitlement to discounts, disregards, and exemptions.
Issue statutory notices, recovery documentation, and enforcement referrals.
Respond to customer enquiries across multiple channels, including in-person, telephone, email, and written correspondence.
Negotiate and monitor payment arrangements with customers in arrears, exercising discretion and sound judgment.
Support the Council's representation at Magistrates Court hearings and assist in the preparation of legal documentation.
Liaise with enforcement agents, valuation officers, and other internal and external stakeholders.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and council policies.
About You
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates:
Proven experience in a Revenues or similar environment (e.g., Rents, Debt Recovery), with a strong understanding of Council Tax legislation.
Proficiency in using computerised accounts systems to manage and update financial records.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and complex customer interactions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively, and meet performance targets.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Substantial experience in Council Tax or Business Rates collection.
Demonstrable knowledge of enforcement and debt recovery procedures.
Experience in preparing and presenting cases for legal proceedings is desirable.
