Job Title: Business Development Manager – Customs Location: Preston + Flexible (Hybrid working available) Salary: £45,000–£50,000 + £5,000 annual bonus + car allowance + benefits Overview UK Staffing Group is recruiting a Business Development Manager (BDM) on behalf of a leading international customs and logistics solutions provider. The business was founded to simplify cross-border trade for UK and European clients and has experienced exceptional growth over the past year, doubling in size and expanding its customer base across multiple industries. As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking an experienced and motivated BDM to drive new business opportunities, nurture existing relationships, and help shape the company’s future commercial strategy. Package & Benefits Salary: £45,000–£50,000 (depending on experience) Bonus: £5,000 annual bonus (performance-based, with potential for additional commission) Car allowance Hybrid working with flexible arrangements Key Responsibilities You will be responsible for developing and implementing a clear sales strategy to generate new business opportunities within the customs, freight forwarding, and logistics sectors. You will proactively identify and approach potential clients, building long-term relationships that support the company’s continued growth. The role requires a balance of client-facing activity and internal business planning—approximately half of your time will be spent engaging with clients and the remaining half managing administrative and strategic development tasks. You will also prepare tailored proposals and presentations for potential clients and contribute to the continuous improvement of sales processes and customer experience. About You You will have at least five years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or customs clearance, along with a proven track record in business development or sales within international trade or customs environments. You should have a strong understanding of import and export procedures, customs documentation, and cross-border logistics, coupled with excellent communication and negotiation skills. You will be proactive, results-driven, and confident working autonomously, with strong IT literacy and familiarity with CRM systems. A full UK driving licence is required for client visits. Working Structure & Location The role offers hybrid and flexible working. You can expect to spend around two to three days each week on the road meeting clients and attending business development appointments. A further day will typically be dedicated to customer communication and outreach, engaging with prospects and existing clients via phone, email, or Teams. The remaining days will focus on administrative tasks such as pipeline management, appointment scheduling, reporting, and preparing proposals. Office visits may be required on an ad-hoc basis for team collaboration, planning, and training sessions.
