Customs Compliance Assistant
£27k per annum

Our client based in the Wrexham area is currently recruiting a Customs Compliance Assistant. Our client is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join their dynamic customs team. Candidates should have strong analytical and research skills, the ability to make informed decisions and communicate effectively. They should be organised, focused and able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team and prioritise workloads and conclude tasks. There will be a strong element of reporting and gathering information to support operations. The successful candidate will work in a small team, reporting to the Customs Manager.
Performance Objectives
Data Management & Analysis
* Ensure correct tariff codes are recorded and applied for all imports/exports.
* Liaise with suppliers to resolve discrepancies in tariff data.
* Communicate tariff updates internally.
* Monitor open orders and pre-calculate expected duty/VAT payments.
* Submit and check import/export requests to customs brokers.
* Record and monitor completion of import entries.
* Audit customs entries for accuracy in declared data and tariffs, duty/VAT.
* Prepare import templates (for CHED-P, IPAFFS, dutiable imports).
Compliance & Documentation
* Oversee documentary checks including health certificates (EHCs).
* Classify new products with tariff using UK and EU Trade Tariff websites.
* Maintain customs entry records and ensure timely submissions.
* Coordinate with agents and internal teams to meet country-specific requirements.
* Submit export requests and review MSS data reports for variances.
* Support internal audits and ensure systems are updated with HS code changes.
* Support on researching customs requirements for import / export from and to new markets.
* Support on Packaging Compliance and Data Maintenance.
Person Specification
* Strong analytical and research skills.
* Ability to make informed decisions and communicate effectively.
* Organised, focused, and capable of working independently and within a team.
* Advanced Excel skills.
* Experience in customs, supply chain, or purchasing roles is desirable.
* Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
* Sage X3 / SEI / MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
