Job Description

Are you a Telecommunications Engineer with extensive, hands-on experience in data centre environments and landing stations? Are you a time serviced contractor, (Limited Company) looking for your next role? GMP Recruitment are proud to be working with a leading Telecommunications service provider based in Southport. We are recruiting on their behalf for a highly experienced and self-sufficient Telecommunications Engineer to support a high-profile data landing site. The successful candidate will be joining their team on a rolling contract basis. T This is not a junior or entry-level IT role — candidates must demonstrate a strong background in data centre environments and hands-on telecoms infrastructure, including optical networking and vendor-specific equipment. This is an ongoing contractor role, paid weekly at £200 per day, working outside of IR35. To be considered you must be optical transmission skill based. Telecommunications Engineer Main Responsibilities: * Installation and deinstallation of hardware (rack and stack) in live data centre environments * Fibre optic patching, cabling, and testing (single mode/multi-mode) * Working independently on customer sites with minimal supervision * Accurate labelling and documentation of cabling and hardware * Fault finding, diagnostics, and use of test equipment for infrastructure issues * Escorting third-party contractors and clients on-site * Supporting day-to-day site maintenance and upgrades * Travel to additional UK-based data centre locations as required Telecommunications Engineer required skills and experience: * Extensive hands-on experience in data centre (DC) environments * Proficient in fibre optic cabling, patching, splicing, and use of test equipment * Previous work at telecom landing stations or with submarine cable systems * Vendor certifications (Ciena, Infinera, etc.) * Electrical/optical signal testing certifications * Knowledge of optical networking and vendor-specific equipment such as Infinera, Ciena, ADVA, or similar * Proven ability to work autonomously in a telecoms environment (landing stations or similar) * Clear documentation skills for infrastructure and changes * Familiarity with DC best practices, safety standards, and cabling protocols AN IMMEDIATE START IS AVAILABLE FOR SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE.
