We are seeking a Shift Technician to join a highly respected engineering services company based in Hertfordshire, recognised for delivering technical infrastructure projects across data centres, healthcare, and life sciences sectors.

About the Role:
You will play a vital part in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of key infrastructure systems that support mission-critical environments.
Your responsibilities will include:

Monitoring and controlling critical systems such as cooling, power, and building services.
*
Responding promptly to alarms and performing emergency repairs.
*
Conducting regular inspections to ensure equipment performance and reliability.
*
Analysing facility data to identify performance trends and optimise efficiency.
*
Maintaining accurate logs, records, and operational procedures.
*
Supporting planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.
*
Assisting specialist sub-contractors and ensuring smooth shift handovers.
Responsibilities:
*
Operate and maintain BMS/PMS systems and associated plant.
*
Carry out first-line fault diagnostics and emergency response activities.
*
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
*
Record all operational activities within the site’s notification system.
*
Support senior engineers and management in achieving operational targets.
*
Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Skills & Experience Required:
*
Minimum 1 year’s experience within a data centre, critical environment, or building services setting.
*
Strong technical understanding of UPS systems, Diesel Generators, HVAC, and electrical/mechanical services.
*
Proficient in fault finding, diagnostics, and BMS/PMS operation.
*
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
*
Ability to prioritise tasks, stay calm under pressure, and respond to changing priorities.
Qualifications:
*
Relevant qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (e.g. City & Guilds).
*
18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (desirable).
*
Additional technical training or an engineering apprenticeship advantageous.
