Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive both personally and academically? We are looking to appoint a Deputy Head of Year to join a committed pastoral team and play a key role in promoting student wellbeing, engagement and achievement. This is a non-teaching post ideal for someone who is motivated by making a lasting impact on school culture and student development. As Deputy Head of Year, you will work closely with the Head of Year, students, families, and staff to maintain high standards of behaviour, attendance and personal development across the year group. You will act as a vital point of contact for student support and contribute to a nurturing and structured school environment where every student can flourish. Deputy Head of Year (Non-Teaching Post) Working Pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week (term time only - 39 weeks per year) Start Date: September 2025Key Responsibilities: Deputy Head of Year Provide day-to-day pastoral support to students, building strong, positive relationships and helping resolve personal, behavioural, or attendance issues. Work collaboratively with the Head of Year to monitor student behaviour, attendance, and academic progress, implementing effective interventions where necessary. Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure cohesive support for students and families. Support the delivery of year group assemblies, events, and personal development initiatives. Maintain accurate pastoral records using the school's management information systems to inform interventions and safeguard students. Uphold and reinforce the school's behaviour and attendance policies consistently and positively.The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Deputy Head of Year GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent qualifications. Experience working with young people in a pastoral, educational, or youth work setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage empathetically and professionally with students and families. A good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and inclusion.
