Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Services
Location: London borough's and Hertfordshire
Salary: £35,000-£45,000

We’re hiring on behalf of a leading provider of children’s residential care services, dedicated to supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), SEMH, and other complex needs.
As a Deputy Manager, you’ll work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the home, providing stability, structure, and safety for the young people in your care. You’ll play a vital leadership role—supporting, mentoring, and developing the staff team to deliver high-quality care in line with Ofsted standards.
Main Responsibilities

Support the Registered Manager with all aspects of running the home, ensuring compliance with Ofsted and regulatory standards.

Lead shifts and oversee the daily operations of the staff team.
*
Provide supervision, mentoring, and guidance to Residential Childcare Workers and Team Leaders.
*
Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with young people.
*
Act as a role model—promoting independence, self-esteem, and resilience.
*
Ensure care and placement plans, risk assessments, and reports are kept up to date.
*
Manage and participate in the on-call rota and deputise for the Manager when required.
*
Attend multi-agency meetings, audits, and reviews, contributing to ongoing service improvement.
*
Promote safeguarding, equality, and inclusion in all areas of practice.
Essential Criteria
*
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
*
Experience working in a children’s residential setting
*
Strong leadership and communication skills
*
Knowledge of Ofsted Quality Standards and relevant childcare legislation
*
Ability to motivate a team, manage shifts, and ensure high standards of care
*
Emotional resilience and a genuine passion for improving the lives of young people
*
Full UK driving licence
Desirable Criteria
*
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (Children and Young People) or willingness to work towards it
*
Experience supporting young people with EBD, SEMH, or other complex needs
*
Understanding of trauma-informed care and positive behaviour support
