Deputy Manager- Residential Children's Home
£35,878 - £37,464 a year
We are looking for empathetic, resilient and ambitious practitioners with excellent leadership qualities to support the opening of our new home. Career progression and development of newly appointed staff is a key strategic priority to meet our objectives for future growth.
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, creativity and have a desire to want to support young people through challenging periods and circumstances in their lives.
You will need to be able to follow diligent processes and procedures to the letter.
Purpose of the job:
● To ensure that the needs of young people in Bristol Care Group’s care are met and to provide a positive and safe living experience for these young people and;
● To manage and lead the Team Leaders and Residential Support Workers in order to provide a high quality of childcare and;
● To work with and support the Children's Home Manager to always ensure that the home runs smoothly and effectively and that young people achieve positive outcomes.
Essential skills
● Qualified to NVQ3/QCF level 3 in Children and Young People or equivalent
● A minimum of 3 years' previous experience of working directly with young people with challenging behaviour
● Commitment to commence relevant level 5 Diploma within 6 months of appointment and successful completion of probation period, if not already qualified to this level
● A desire to progress to the role of Registered Manager
● Experience of working with outside agencies, other professionals, parents and families
● Experience of attending reviews, planning meetings etc.
● Experience of leading team performance to the highest standards
● Strong motivational, management and leadership potential. Able to supervise, support and develop Senior Practitioners & Children and Young People Practitioners to create a cohesive team.
● Knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted.
● Be capable of working on their own initiative to a high level of accuracy, maintain clear, neat records
● Have good interpersonal skills, and be a positive team player
● The ability to complete daily records to meet statutory and policy requirements.
● A requirement to complete a two on four off shift pattern
● Empathetic nature
● Have good oral and written communication skills in a variety of contexts
● The ability to engage, motivate and encourage young people
● Excellent IT skills.
● Full manual driving licence essential.

Starting Salary: £35,878.00 per year plus £65.00 per sleep in
Person Specification
* Minimum of Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce.
* NVQ level 3 in Caring for Children & Young People or
* NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care (Children & Young People) or
* Level 3 Diploma for Children & Young People’s Workforce or equivalent.
* Be willing to attain a qualification of at least or equivalent to QCF Level 5 Diploma in leadership and management
* A minimum of two years’ experience in a supervisory role within a children’s residential setting.
* A sound working knowledge of the statutory requirements related to children’s residential care. This includes the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015and Quality Standards for Children’s Homes, Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, Data Protection Act 2018, and Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and related policies and procedures for the day-to-day running of a residential children’s home.
* Understanding children’s rights, child protection, safeguarding children, the impact of abuse and neglect, equality and diversity, care and placement planning, risk assessment, and review processes.
* Understanding children’s education, health, social, emotional and psychological needs of looked after children and ensuring these needs are met.
* Supporting the Registered Manager for the training and development of staff team members, regular reflective supervision, and rostering to ensure continuity of positive care for each child.
* Handling a wide range of administrative tasks related to the day-to-day running of a children’s home.
* Evidence of partnership working and competence in identifying and maintaining purposeful networks and collaborative arrangements.
* Ability to work under pressure and cope with the unexpected, to respond calmly to emotive problems and seek appropriate support and solutions
* Ability to work alongside the Manager and have responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and management of a registered children's home, ensuring the service provided is effective at promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and delivering positive outcomes for them.
* Proven leadership qualities, with the ability to motivate self and others, to work on own initiative and to take accountability for work.
* Ability to supervise and support staff to deliver what is needed to meet children and young people's needs, including managing complexity, risk or vulnerability.
* Able to write comprehensive, clear, concise and accurate records and reports to facilitate decision making.
* Able to demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of equalities and diversity issues.
* Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent including the following: Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and have a willingness to learn new applications and technology as appropriate
* Ability to converse with citizens and provide complex information in accurate spoken English, or through a BSL interpreter.
Desirable
* Experience working as a deputy manager is preferred but we will consider someone who has experience working in a senior role and is looking to step up
